What is CCTV ?
Closed Circuit Television, or CCTV systems are utilized to monitor and keep recordings of any form of activity that can occur at a location. The main reason for the installation of CCTV is to ensure the safety and protection of a property.
Why do I need CCTV ?
It can be difficult to keep track of all activities that occur at your business or home. CCTV systems can be used as either a deterrent or as evidence in any cases of theft or vandalism.
What are the features of a CCTV system?
A CCTV system allows for a user to have live montoring, recording, and playback that is connected to Video Recorder, PC, or other storage methods. CCTV systems can hold as many cameras as needed to provide live viewing for surveillance purposes. The type of storage media used can determine the amount of space available on a unit for playback purposes after the recording of footage.
How do I choose the right CCTV ?
Choosing the right CCTV depends on the surveillance needs of your property, and the budget that you have to work with. Contact us to help you with the best CCTV solution for your situation.
How do I choose the right Security systems ?
When deciding on the right security system for your property, take into consideration what is most important to you to have protected. When expenses become the highest priority, most property owners tend to go with the system that costs the least upfront. Sometimes this decision could cost more in the long run. Make sure to choose a system that has a good warranty, and won’t require as much frequent servicing.
Can I supply my own CCTV equipment?
Yes, we do install equipment that you have purchsed already, but it is not highly recommended. Many of the systems that are purchased outside of trusted manufactuers are not guranteed by our company, and may create an extensive amount of issues down the line and require much more servicing, which can turn into higher overall costs.
What happens when the work is complete?
Once the work is complete, there are many opportunities that still exist between us and your system. There is required maintenance that needs to be provided for the system either once or twice a year depending on the system. If a service maintenance contract is purchased, there are no extra expenses for service calls and maintenance. We will come out within a 48 hour period after the call is made to come and service any issues that may exist with your system. In some cases, we are able to remotely fix the issues as well.
What Happens if I Catch Someone on Camera?
If you happen to catch someone on camera and they performed an activity that requires police assistance, we can extract the footage for a charge and help you provide the evidence to the authorities. We can perform this task remotely in some cases, and in others, we can have a technician come onsite to retrieve the footage.
Can I make it record for longer?
Yes, there is an option to set up for motion detection to only capture images when it becomes triggered. The only downside is if there is extensive rain, or anything that blows by due to wind, the cameras can pick up unwanted motion. In most situations, there could be weeks added to the storage time. If storage space is a large concern, it is best to have a unit that suits all of your needs.
How long will my system record for?
Your system can record for as long as you need it to. The more space you have, the longer it will record. If there are multiple cameras, then storage space will be shared on the video recorder. When using a digital video recorder, a typical record time might be 30 days. On day 31, it will start to record over the old images, allowing for the new footage to have a place to go.
Do the cameras light up at night?
What are the different types of burglar alarm system available?
There are many ways that alarm systems can detect burglars. Monitored alarm systems are very traditionally used as they send an immediate notification upon the entrance of an intruder. They are monitored 24/7 but require a monthly fee. Magnetic contacts that are placed on windows and doors can activate an alarm system when the contacts are seperated.
What is the cost of installing a burglar alarm?
Security alarm systems won’t cost you anything for the hardware or the installation with us just pay a monthly fees from $39.99 to $54.99 depending of your selection.
What about extras like GSM functionality, panic buttons and CCTV?
The new breed of GSM alarms are designed to let you use your mobile phone as a remote control for your security system. A variety of different options is available including GSM temperature detectors and water/flood detectors. Panic Buttons give peace of mind to the elderly and vulnerable. A wall-mounted panic button is typically combined with a personal pendant and when either is activated it dials one or more of the programmed contacts as well as alerting a customer security center. If you own your property it is legal to install CCTV provided planning permission is not required and provided the camera is trained on your property not your neighbor’s. Cameras trained on areas beyond property boundaries could amount to harassment and violate the rule of law.
Is it worth getting a dummy burglar alarm box?
Burglars are aware of what the dummy boxes look like and if you were intending to get an insurance reduction, a dummy box won’t do you any good.

Access Control Faq’s
I want to control some of the doors at my offices. What are my options?
There are many options available when it comes to controlling doors in an office space. Some examples of this include standalone electronic keypads or biometrics that recognize human characteristics to gain entry. Standalone systems require enrolling of each user, which can be time consuming to monitor and control. PC-based access control systems can allow for easier system management of access control points.
How many people can I control?
There is no limit on how little or how many people you can control.
Isn’t it simpler to have a mechanical code lock on the doors?
Not necessarily. Mechanical locks tend to not be as reliable as other access control options that we offer.
I already have an intruder alarm, can this control some doors?
Yes, there are certain advanced alarm systems that exist which can allow for control of doors as a part of their features. These systems do not exceed the capabilities of a PC controlled system which we are able to provide for more extensive door management and control.
If my alarm is no good, I need a dedicated Access System then?
This is all dependent on how many people and doors you need to control as well as how much you have in your budget. Our technicians know best whether or not a certain system will work best for your situation.
Do I always need a PC based system?
PC based systems offer the easiest access and control as opposed to standalone systems so they are highly recommended for most installs.
What do people need to carry with them?
When it comes to gaining access for users, they typically will carry anything ranging from key ring fobs, ID badges, stick on fobs, plus other options.
What about finger prints?
Fingerprint scanners fall under the category for Biometric solutions which use human characteristics to identify a user. This has become a cost effective solution, but if it is required for over 200 users, it can be a bit untimely when the scanner is attempting to authorize an individual. It takes some time to sift through the many fingerprints that exist in the database. When paired with a PIN number or a badge, the process time can be greatly reduced, and also add another measure of safety to protect the point of entry.
If we want badges, how do we get badges printed?
Smart Security Camera can have a badge printing company take care of your badges, or if a significant amount of employees are constantly needing badges printed, it is possible for you to invest in having an in house badge printing bureau.
What else can a PC controlled Access System do?
It depends on the sophistication of the system you choose, but some features are: Visitor Management, Time and Attendance, Asset Tagging, Asset Management, DDA Compliance, Turnstile Control, Cashless vending, Log-on to PC control, Car park Management, Vehicle and Freight Management, Alarm Control, CCTV, Membership Control and so on. It’s almost the case that whatever your problem, we have a solution – try us out.
So I don’t need a standalone CCTV system anymore?
Depending on the chosen platform, it is possible to have your footage recorded in the access control system. With the integration, it is possible to use the two services simultaneously. If there is something triggered on the security camera of concern, and an unathorized individual needs to be stopped, the same system can be used to close the upcoming door for the individual without any security guards needing to run down there and do it themselves.
So is this what would be described as an Integrated System?
As long as the correct platform is chosen, this can be considerd an integrated system with many options for other services to be added to the access control system.
Who can access the information?
Only those who have been granted the authority will be able to access the information.
What are the options for locks?
Locks are necessary for keeping your doors protected. Without the locks, access control systems are unable to do what they need to. There are many solutions for all of the needs that exist for locks. Smart Security Camera technicians are able to provide you with the many different options that will suit your situation.
